Sipho Sibusiso Mnguni (37), a former employee of Department of Justice was found guilty and sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment of which five years were suspended by Standerton Regional Court on Tuesday 7th November 2017 for fraud of R30 000.
Mnguni was a working for the Department of Justice and responsible for maintenance pay out. During 2011 Mgnuni was working at the Bethal Magistrate offices and started manipulating the system by transferring money into accounts belonging to his family and relatives. In 2012 he was promoted to Standerton Magistrate Court offices where he continued to commit fraud.
Mnguni was caught and a case of fraud was opened at Bethal. Mnguni was convicted and sentenced to 8 years’ direct imprisonment by Bethal Magistrate Court on the 25 July 2017 and send to prison. The case against him was re-opened again at Standerton and another 10 years added to his prison sentence.
Fraud and corruption within the government remains a major challenge as the government is expected to deliver services to the community. The provincial Head of Mpumalanga DPCI, Major Gen Mokoena issued a warning to those who are involved in such activities and thanked the investigating officer for his persistent efforts to bring the accused to book.
