Former Hawks commander guilty with 12 others over cash heist


With cash heists predicted to rise in Mpumalanga over the Easter holiday, 13 people will spend 20 years in prison for the disappearance of R105 million during just such a heist in 2014 in Witbank.

The Delmas High Court handed down the sentence to those involved in the robbery with former  commander of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime unit in Mpumalanga, Bhekane Welcome Gcabashe (48) as one of the guilty parties.

The raid on the offices of SBV in Witbank four years ago also saw victims beings kidnapped and The the robbers endangering their lives by forcing them to ingest a toxic substance.

The 13 were found guilty of conspiracy to murder‚ robbery with aggravating circumstances‚ kidnapping‚ attempted murder and malicious damage to property.
