No wonder the Police Commissioner calls Mpumalanga the “murder city” of the country with murders up a shocking 11% since last year. This year has also seen many young women killed by their boyfriends and husbands in the province.
In the latest incidence a 35-year-old man was arrested by the Mbombela police for the alleged murder of his live-in lady friend, yesterday. The murder took place in a back room of a house in the city, which is rented by the suspect.
According to information from SAPS, the man allegedly used a blunt object to hit the victim on the head. He then wrapped her lifeless body in plastic. Police got a tip-off and found the suspect pretending to be searching for his door key before trying to flee. He was apprehended and detained.
Inside the room they discovered the plastic-wrapped body of the victim next to a wall. The reason for the killing is not yet known and the police investigation continues. The suspect will appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of murder.
