Joint efforts by Komatipoort community members, South Africa Police Services (SAPS) and a car tracking company led to the successful arrest of two suspect.
Following a hijacking report in Tonga from the tracking service provider, SAPS members located a suspect in Komatipoort at the BP Garage on their way to the Lebombo border gate.
When the suspect in the black Golf5 with registration number HHX 493 MP saw the SAPS members, he ran but employees of the filling station gave chase with the police who arrested the suspect.
Tonga SAPS and members of the tracking service continued with their search as next to the hijacked vehicle, a Dubai-registered mini bus containing various electronic equipment was parked. The television, radio with speakers and remote control were allegedly stolen during a house break-in and theft in Tonga earlier this month. The car and the equipment belonged to the same victim.
Both vehicles were confiscated and taken to Komatipoort SAPS, following up information from the local and another suspect was arrested.
The two young African males are still in custody and will appear at Komatipoort Magistrate court later this month on the hijacking charge while the house breaking and theft charges will be heard at Tonga.
