Eskom implements stage 2 load shedding Monday, February 11, 2019

load shedding

Although a number of units have returned to service as per the 9-point recovery plan, regrettably additional units continue to trip. This results in a shortage of generating capacity,” said the power utility this morning.

This is the second day in a row this year that the utility is implementing load shedding.

In December, the utility announced that they would implement load-shedding until January 13, 2019.

Stage 2 rotational load shedding which calls for 2000MW to be rotationally load shed nationally at a given period, is expected to continue until 10pm.

Load shedding is conducted rotationally as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.

Meanwhile, the power utility reminded customers to treat all electrical points as live during load shedding.

“We continue to appeal to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.”
