A 53-YEAR-OLD man from Goromane in Bushbuckridge has spent the entire winter living in a dilapidated tiny shack.Killer Mokoena says he tried on several occasions to apply for an RDP house, but the government ignored him.
Mokoena who is suffering from tuberculosis is appealing to good Samaritans to assist him to build a shelter. “My standard of living has been downgraded to that of an animal because the shack that I live in has no proper roofing, there are holes all over. In fact, I can say I am literally sleeping outside as I am always freezing. The diseases I am suffering from prohibiting me to work as I am weak,” said Mokoena.
When contacted for comment, Human Settlement spokesperson Freddy Ngobe, said: “Upon checking the validity of Mokoena’s application, we discovered that his application has been declined due to the incorrect information he has given to the municipality. However, the department has since taken up the matter to physically help Mokoena to follow the due application processes in a bid to assist him to benefit from the existing projects within the municipality.”
