OGIES –Two men accused of kidnapping a 20-year-old woman are expected to appear in the Oggies Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Sipho Alfred Msumba 37, and Nolufefe Mbulana 33, made their first appearance yesterday where they were remanded in custody.
The Oggies Detectives, Tactical Response Team, as well as Witbank Cluster Tracing Team arrested the alleged kidnappers in Etwatwa near Benoni several days ago.
“They were charged with kidnapping following an incident where they allegedly abducted the young woman at her home in Oggies last week.
Investigations revealed that on December 19 last year, Msumba went to his 39-year-old girlfriends home and forcibly took her to his place of residents and ordered her not to contact her family.
“The woman managed to escape and returned home at which point her family took her into hiding.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Mtsholi Bhembe, Msumba and his friends after realising his girlfriend had escaped went to the woman’s family, produced a firearm, assaulted family members and kidnapped another young woman,”.
Bhembe said Msumba and his two friends told the family that they would kill the young woman if they failed to hand over his girlfriend.
Police have urged anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of a third suspect to come forward.
