Members of the White River K9 Unit have arrested two suspects aged 34 and 41 and seized a large stash of uncut heroin on the N4 road near the Nkomazi Toll Plaza.
The arrest and seizure follows after police stopped a suspicious-looking bakkie for a routine search. During the search, a false compartment in the vehicle’s loading area was detected and upon opening it, police made a discovery of heroin worth approximately R45 million street value.
The suspects are set to appear at the Low’s Creek Periodical Court today2018 facing charges of possession and dealing in illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident during the early hours of the morning, members of the South African Police Service attached to the Lebombo Port of Entry at Komatipoort, seized illicit goods to the estimated value of R1.5 Million. The truck which was coming from Mozambique en-route to Gauteng was loaded with 2 609 pairs of counterfeit sneakers and sandals. The driver managed to flee the scene while police were attending to the truck. The articles were handed over to SARS Customs Officials.
