As many as 78 of the 180 confirmed deaths from this killer disease are infants, including newborns younger than 28 days old. This was confirmed by Dr Juno Thomas of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).
“We are concerned that the information regarding the outbreak and the measures to be taken will not reach people, particularly in the peri-urban and rural areas. “Therefore, yes, we are expecting more cases,” she said.
Tiger Brands has now distanced itself from the deaths linked to the food borne disease.
