THE Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) has on Monday (today) launched the 2nd Annual Mbombela Jazz Festival scheduled to take place on September 08 during Tourism Month. MTPA said the launch took place at Mbombela Holiday Resort.
MTPA partnered with Harmocept Holdings in 2017 to host the Annual Mbombela Jazz Festival as part of promoting Mpumalanga as a tourism destination through a series of events lined up during the month of September.
“The events play a significant role in creating awareness about any tourism destination. There are people who travel not only for leisure purposes or for relaxation but for entertainment as well. Our intention with the launch was to release more information about the festival and other September Month events,” said Nomaswazi Shabangu-Mndawe, Deputy Chairperson of MTPA.
“We have also used the event to update all our stakeholders on the programme of events and the line-up of artists scheduled to perform at this year’s event in September,” said Shabangu-Mndawe.
Shabangu- The Mbombela said the Jazz Festival has contributed towards increasing the number of the domestic tourists to the province as it attracts visitors from Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Swaziland.
“September is Tourism Month and this event forms part of a series of awareness campaigns and events that have been scheduled to celebrate tourism month in the province,” said Shabangu-Mdawe.
Other events /lined up for the September Tourism Month include, the Triland Soccer Challenge, which will be include teams from Swaziland and Mozambique, and the event will be held on July 21 at Mbombela Stadium, Ray Phiri Memorial Lecture in partnership with the University of Mpumalanga will be held on September 06, Mbombela Jazz Festival Charity Golf day at Matumi Golf Course on September 07, the golf day will reportedly be used to collect school shoes to be donated to needy school children and the main festival will be held on September 08 at Mbombela Stadium.
