Members of the National Traffic Police (NTP) who were deployed in Mpumalanga preferred to sleep in the open over the Easter weekend after accommodation booked for them in Komatipoort.

The NTP had deployed almost 200 of their members across various provinces to assist with traffic during the Easter long weekend.

In a strongly worded statement, the NTP has assured that these officers will be taken to task and said that they  “had brought the corporation and the entire government into disrepute and undermined government efforts to improve safety on the roads over the busy Easter period.”

It is not yet clear what led to their refusal to sleep in their booked accommodation.
