Mpumalanga botched cash-in- transit heist suspects on the run

Mpumalanga police are searching for the criminals who are involved in botched cash -in- transit heist that happened in Pienaar outside Nelspruit yesterday.

The G4S armed vehicle was traveling at Lehawu , Pienaar road when a white Audi and white Nissan double cab allegedly started shooting at the vehicle and the tyres got flat.

“They injured the driver on the right thigh and assaulted him in the face with firearms in order to force him to open the rear door of the vehicle so that they can take the money.

“The driver told them that it was only Head office that can open the rear door,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi.

Hlathi said the suspects tried to blast the vehicle with explosives but failed.  He said the suspects drove away empty handed.

The injured driver was taken to Medi-clinic for medical treatment.  All the suspects are still at large and the police urge anyone with information to contact the Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or Mpumalanga Hawks Operations Commander Brigadier Obed Ngwenya on 082 565 6417.
