Mpumalanga to sign MOU with Maputo Province

MPUMALANGA Premier Refilwe Mtshweni will on Friday, lead a provincial delegation to Mozambique to sign a memorandum of understanding [MOU] with the Government of the Province of Maputo.

The MOU is aimed at developing and expanding on the economic potential of the two provinces, especially in the agricultural sector.

“The MOU between the two provinces is also aimed at maximising investment opportunities in various areas of cooperation, promote and encourage capacity building actions of government agencies, private sector organisations and civil society.

It is further intended at promoting and encouraging the development of tourism and other related activities,” said Premier spokesperson Zibonele Mncwango.

According to Mncwango, the MOU seeks to renew, strengthen and deepen ties between the two provinces as it will focus on cooperation in the areas of agriculture and agro-processing, trade and investment, tourism development, infrastructure and transport logistics as well as local government, culture, and sports.

Mtshweni will be accompanied by Community Safety Security and Liaison MEC Pat Ngomana, Agriculture Rural Development Land Environmental Affairs MEC Vusi Shongwe, Public Works Roads and Transport Head of Department Sindi Xulu, MEGA CEO Xola Sithole, MRTT CEO Riaan Osthuizen, MTPA CEO John Nobunga and one of her special advisors Zweli Mncube.

The Premier has appointed Health MEC Gillion Mashego as the Acting Premier while she will be out of the country. Mashego will be sworn in tomorrow morning.
