One cop dead, another hurt in robbery shootout

In the early hours of this morning in KwaMhlanga, a police captain lost his life and a constable was injured during a business robbery- in-progress.

According to the latest information, 10 armed men stormed the filling station in the township, broke the main door and forced clients and employees into a staff room. All was held hostage with the guard allegedly randomly firing off shots. The cashier was ordered to handover the cash and attempts to open the drop safe in the shop were made, but to no avail.

The two policemen on duty arrived at the scene with the criminals fleeing  with three firearms they robbed and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The injured police constable was taken to hospital where his condition is stable.

Police are investigating and the Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga Lieutenant Gen Mondi Zuma expressed his sadness and called on the community to cooperate with the police and come forward if anyone has information. The men were driving a blue Golf Gti.
