THE police appealed to the public to assist them in arresting a 34-year-old man who escaped from the Boschfontein Periodical Court earlier this month.
It is alleged that Nhlanhla Sibusiso Mahlalela assaulted a police officer who escorted him from the court holding cells and then escaped. Mahlalela and other offenders were being transported from the Tonga Police Station to appear in court.

“He was wearing black trousers and a grey jersey at the time of his escape, but he was later spotted limping and wearing grey tracksuit pants and a blue shirt.
He was arrested for cases including murder, rape, housebreaking and the possession of an
unlicenced firearm,” said Tonga police spokesperson Captain Magonseni Nkosi Mahlalela.

Nkosi said Mahlalela was arrested earlier this year and remained in police custody after already being found guilty on some of the cases he was facing.

Police are working around the clock to re-arrest the suspect , he added.
Community members were warned not to attempt to apprehend him as he was considered
dangerous, but to contact Captain Musisiwe Kunene on 082-448-9521,” Nkosi said.
