A police constable from Pienaar and his accomplice were arrested yesterday when they were found in possession of a suspected hijacked truck.
They were arrested after the tracking company noticed the truck embarking on wrong route. Members of the White River Flying Squad Unit spotted the truck and two occupants on the Sabie/White River Road near the Brondal turn-off just outside White River.
It was established that the pair were not the official drivers of the truck and that one of the suspects was found to be a police official. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances under which the truck was hijacked.
The suspects will appear at the White River Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on a charge of possession of a hijacked truck, with a hijacking case pending the finalisation of the investigation.
The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lt-General Mondli Zuma condemned the conduct of the police official who is bound by his oath of office to uphold the law. “Any police officer found colluding with criminals will be identified, isolated and dealt with accordingly,” said Zuma.
