TONGA – Local police has appealed to the public to assist them in finding three suspects who are said to have hijacked a police officer in Tonga near Malalane a few days ago.

The 43-year-old police sergeant stationed at Mbuzini Police Station was alone when three men allegedly appeared from nearby bushes and  stopped him, tied him up and drove away.

According to SAPS at Tonga, the suspects took the vehicle, a white Ford Bantam bakkie and two cell phones after dropping him in the bush at neighbouring Phiva. According to police information, the victim struggled until he managed to untie himself in the early hours of the next day and ran to a nearby house where he asked for help. To date the suspects are still at large.

Anyone with information that may assist in arresting the perpetrators is urged to contact the nearest police station.
