Police are following every possible lead in tracing the suspects responsible for the spate of break-ins at the Inkwazi shopping centre in Malalane, in Nkomazi. According to Const Bheki Nkosi, spokesperson for Malalane police station, efforts to find the suspects have been increased.
The last of the robberies happened on 19 August when Roots Butchery store was targeted. A similar armed robbery was at the Ingwe Mall when Clicks were targeted.
NewsHorn first reported that the suspects were heavily armed during the second attempted break-in, however Nkosi has since said that the suspects appeared to be armed with nine millimetre pistols.
“After carefully watching the security footage, we have found that what appeared to be heavy firearms was in actual fact pistols, it cannot be confirmed whether all the suspects were armed or not. ” Nkosi said.
Despite two shops being hit simultaneously at Inkwazi Mall, MTN and CAN, only CNA suffered loss. The security guard liable for the guarding of the complex was tied up by the robbers during these robberies and only released before they fled. A video of this robbery was put online by owner of Inwazi Mall, Lex Hollman.
At time of going to print, no arrests had as yet been made by the police.
