The South African Department of Water and Sanitation has encouraged everyone from all walks of life, wherever they will be, to pray for rain this coming weekend.
Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane said faith-based organisations play an important role in communities and they can help as water challenges continue.
“The lack of rain – which has caused the average dam levels nationally to drop to as low as 59.6% – is a serious concern and we need a coordinated effort that will ensure we secure much needed rains to complement our interventions.”
Priests and pastors around the country have already been engaged in prayer meetings for the rain.
Meanwhile, it has been reported in the African Independent that Ghana is also running dry and stringent water saving measures are enforced.
