After a series of disruptions of scholar transport services that were encountered in several areas at Ehlanzeni and Gert Sibande districts in Mpumalanga Province at the beginning of the 2019 academic year, the situation has finally been resolved. This follows numerous engagements between the Department and various stakeholders including aggrieved parties in an attempt to address the situation which resulted from reports of intimidation of scholar transport operators by unknown individuals.

The Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport in collaboration with SAPS continues to monitor the situation in affected areas to ascertain that there are no further disruptions. Scholar transport operators who experience any challenges are also able to liaise directly with the Department for further assistance to ensure that learners are not disadvantaged in any manner.
