A SCHOOL in Marite, Bushbuckridge, was set alight in the early hours of this morning. It is alleged that Skapandoda High School was torched by community members who were not happy with the process of employing workers who will be working on the construction of the road that will commence soon. Some of the school’s office equipment was reportedly stolen.
When contacted for comment, the School Governing Body’s Chairperson, Eddie Matsane said they were informed by a security guard that the school was on fire.
“We are not sure who burnt the school, however, on Monday a group of young boys jumped the school gates and ordered us to release the learners to go home. They disturbed the learning process on the ground that they were not happy about the way the people were employed on the road construction project,” said Matsane.
He added that the school has nothing to do with the employment of the construction workers. They were supposed to address the issue with relevant people. The police were not immediately available for comment.
