Standard Bank robbers in court

Three people accused of robbing the Standard Bank branch in Bushbuckridge are expected to appear in the Hazyview Magistrate’s Court today. The suspects who are from Middelburg in  Mpumalanga were arrested at their hide-out in Hazyview.

It is alleged that in the early hours of yesterday morning the men aged between 37 and 52 went to the bank and gained entry through the roof after which they blew up two ATM’s with explosives and managed to steal an undisclosed amount of cash.

“Information was received about the bank burglary in progress at Standard Bank at the  Bushbuckridge Complex when SAPS and security guards responded. The suspects shot at them and a security guard was killed,” said Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Deneo Sekgotodi. The suspects were found in possession of a lot of cash.

When police question them they gave an address  in Shatale where two vehicles, a white Ford Ranger which was hijacked at Calcutta on Saturday last week and white Toyota single cab which was used during the commission of the crime, were seized. The Mpumalanga Hawks Provincial Head Maj-Gen Mokoena thanked the police for their quick responsetold the media that the investigation is in progress and at the same time, called on the community to assist the team in arresting the other suspects.
