It is still not clear what caused the accident that happened yesterday morning where MEC Vusi Shongwe’s vehicle collided head-on with a minibus taxi.

Shongwe, who is MEC for the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs, was driving in Mbombela on the R40 Road near the SABC building when the accident happened.
According to the statement released by the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Shongwe was driving southbound from the White River direction when the driver of the minibus turned and drove onto the oncoming traffic lane.
“However, it is still not clear what caused the accident. Investigations are underway to establish more information concerning the matter. The taxi driver who was alone in the vehicle was immediately transported to the hospital while Shongwe visited Medic Clinic for a check-up,” department spokesperson Joseph Mabuza told NewsHorn today.
The department has wished the injured a speedy recovery.
