IT is the time of the year when Mpumalanga honours its own and the Golden Stars Awards will for the second year, be a glittering event. The province’s rich array of talent will be showcased and celebrated.

These awards especially honour artists in film, entertainment, media and music in the Bushbuckridge communities.

Spokesperson for the event, Comfort Ndlovu, said the event will once again ensure that local entertainers plying their trades across the country and in the local entertainment arena rub shoulders and celebrate in style. He also emphasised the importance of honouring local talent.

Since the inception of the awards last year, the aim had been  to rotate the awards around Bushbuckridge communities in order to ensure that it became the true people’s awards. “Last year we were at Acornhoek in the far northern side of Bushbuckridge and this time around, we are taking it back to one of the kasis that received most votes on social media.

The Golden Stars Awards are organized by Delias Media Group – a mass media and public relations firm that is owned by the former journalist and media specialist, Sipho Dzimba. Last year’s 16 prizes were awarded. This year 30 individuals will walk away with an award in their respective category.

“Last year’s nominations encouraged us to keep tabs with the brand. We are encouraged by the great work of our local stars and do believe that this will go a long way to promote their talents while they also get in touch with each other. This is the greatest platform for them to celebrate, enjoy and network amongst themselves,” Dzimba said.

The event is scheduled for will take place on Saturday, December 22, within the Bushbuckridge region and a venue will be announced closer to the date.
