Take security serious this festive season – SAPS

PROVINCIAL Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, has urged communities to take safety and security precautions seriously over the festive season. He asked the public to not drink and drive and urged parents and guardians ensure that children under their care are attended to at all time to prevent any harm befalling them.

Police in the province, together with other law enforcement agencies, will collaborate in a bid to fight crime by conducting high density visible and road safety operations to root out criminal activities, he added.

The public was also urged to be alert at all times when using Automated Teller Machines (ATM’s) and not to request assistance from strangers. They must avoid withdrawing and carrying large amounts of cash as a safety measure.

Stokvel members are urged to make arrangements with the banks for payment of dividends to individual members. This warning comes in the wake of several Stokvel members  being mugged and robbed during this period.

The public is also advised to cooperate with the police and be patient when at vehicle checkpoints.
