STAGE one blackouts were implemented in certain areas last night as protests and damage to Eskom property continues after the parastatal refused to agree to salary increases for union workers.
Public Enterprises Minister, Pravin Gordhan met with the unions earlier to explain the financial duress the electricity supplier is under. He stressed the fact that the country cannot keep bailing out state-owned enterprises such as Eskom.
So far, no agreement has been reached. The unions demand a 15% increase while Eskom is offering none.
