Thousands worth of cocaine confiscated in Komatipoort

With Komatipoort on the border of Mozambique, this small town has become the gate to South Africa for drug smugglers.

In the latest incident, a 30-year-old Mozambican national was found in possession of cocaine with an estimated street value of R725 700. The man, who was driving a minibus taxi destined for Johannesburg, was arrested around 22:00 Saturday evening by alert cops.

The individual who had no  identification on him, claimed that he had been given the parcel by another Mozambican national to deliver to someone in Johannesburg and he was unaware of the contents thereof.

He is being detained at the Komatipoort Police Station and will appear at the local Magistrate’s Court.
