Crowning Miss Mpumalanga – The Journey

Tumelo waga Dibakwane

This year Mzimari Productions and the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER) will be crowning the eighth queen.  Mzimari Productions CEO  Gugu Nyarenda says “looking back over the years from 2011, one cannot help but recount the humble beginnings of this pageant. It’s been a mixture of struggle to make it credible in ensuring that it lived up to expectations, especially from the sponsor’s objective of initially being community developers of note.”

“We’ve been able to get into MER’s objective of transforming girls into responsible citizens among their communities and peers. Focusing on grass root communities, the pageant produced reputable queens that have shone at home and at national level – a feat that we pride ourselves for” says Nyerenda. She further said that the brand has grown in stature to an extent that “our crowning event has turned out to be the best calendar event in the province they have continued living up to their motto. “We’ve brought an array of spectacular shows with different themes each year. This is one of the shows that have succeeded in making it a must dress-up event, where the red carpet is filled up with some of the best exquisite fashion that often leaves one in awe,” she said.

The CEO further said through the assistance of deputy president DD Mabuza’s foundation, all of the past queens received education bursaries at tertiary institutions of their choice. Other finalists have also benefited from the foundation through bursaries. All except one of the queens have had the privilege of receiving vehicles as part of their lucrative prize packages.
Most importantly, all the queens and finalists each year have been transformed into worthy ambassadors of the province and their communities through their illustrious community outreach programmes that have also resulted in the formation of Zazi ambassadors in all 17 municipalities in the province.

“The cherry on top was when our 2013 queen, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, was crowned Miss South Africa 2016 and also went as far as participating in the Miss Universe beauty pageant. In short, what Mzimari Productions set out to do in society, has continued yielding the desired results in bringing about change” she said

The crowning ceremony will be held on Saturday April 7 at the AGS Communio Centre in West Acres. Tickets are available through Computicket for R150 and R400 for VIP’s.
