PRESIDENT of the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa), Kgosi Lameck Mokoena has issued a strong warning to illegal initiation school owners. Mokoena appealed to traditional leaders not to grant permission to people who do not have experience in operating initiation schools.

“If a person runs an illegal initiation school, they normally hide information if something goes wrong . They place the children’s lives in danger. Those  found operating illegal schools will be arrested,” said Mokoena.

Mokoena also appealed to parents to take their children to a hospital for check-ups before taking them to the initiation schools.” I also advised parents and school owners not to allow underage children to go to the schools,” he said. “In the past, we have seen a number of cases where initiates lost their lives.”
