The case against a 65-year- old man accused of raping 12-year-old girl has been postponed to Tuesday next week for a formal bail application. The suspect was not asked to plead when he appeared briefly in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The man from Block A, near Tonga outside Malalane reportedly went to the victim’s home while the parents were away and allegedly raped the child and threatened to kill her if she tells anyone. This continued until recently when the little girl could not handle the sexual abuse any longer. She then wrote a note to her friend in class who in turn showed their teacher and the victim’s mother.
“Police were informed and the victim was taken to the hospital where the rape was confirmed, hence the arrest,’’ said Mpumalanga police spokesperson Sgt Gerald Sedibe.
Meanwhile another elderly man (64) also appeared in the Balfour Magistrate’s Court for raping a seven-year-old minor. It is alleged that the minor was picking fruit from the suspect’s yard when the suspect forced her inside his shack and raped her. “Her cousin saw the incident and called the victim’s mother. They went to the shack and found the suspect still dressing . Police were summoned and he was arrested,” said the police. He is expected to appear again in the same court on Monday for a formal bail application.
