Trade union Solidarity says Vantage Goldfields owning Lily mine in Mpumalanga should be liquidated.
This is after the company has once again failed to secure a deal to revive the mine.
Lily Gold Mine stopped operating after it caved in early last year, leaving three workers trapped.
Solidarity’s Secretary Gideon du Plessis says at least workers will benefit if the company is liquidated.
“The mine infrastructure is busy being damaged in such an extent that it will be difficult to get the mine back to operation, and we believe that if no investor has been able to invest or to take over the mine by now, the chances are so slim that anyone will take over the dilapidated mine in the future.”
