Update on N4 crash – drunk driver in court

The families of the victims of N4 Toll Road multiple vehicle crash have agreed to a joint mass memorial and funeral services. The follows the visit to the families by Mpumalanga Community Safety Security and Liaison MEC Pat Ngomane and Nkomazi Local Municipality Mayor Cllr. Johan Mkhatshwa.

A task team has been set up to assist and support the affected families. It comprises of officials from DCSSL, Social Development, RAF, Nkomazi Local Municipality, Ehlanzeni Taxi Council and community members.

Fourteen of the deceased have been positively identified and only one person is yet to be identified. Six of the  critically injured have since been taken to a general ward at Kiaat Hospital and another person is still in ICU at Rob Ferreira Hospital in Mbombela.

Meanwhile the driver of of the involved sedan appeared today at Matsulu Circuit of Kabokweni Magistrate Court on charges of culpable homicide and drunken driving. The matter was postponed to 29 November 2018. He has been granted a R2000 bail.
