WITH the final drops being squeezed from SA wine grapes, the news is not good. The decline in the wine production in the drought ravaged areas of the country indicates that it is the worst year for winemakers since 2005.
Wine production is down by 15%, translating in 170 million litres less which means the prices of wines will increase.
The latest survey indicates that wine producers are currently only managing a 1% on investment and a third operating at a loss. The country also has 25% less wine producers than ten years ago.
